Want to start Climbing?

Here's a guide!

So you’ve heard of Rock Climbing? From a friend, family maybe a children’s birthday party your own or a distant memory but you’re interested in the sport.

Well, I could try and sell you on the amazing and fun sport of rock climbing right away and tell you to buy all the different gear and other stuff but I think everyone’s first step should start somewhere simpler.

But now as you probably know there is a decent amount of stuff you may want to purchase, shoes, harnesses, chalk bags, chalk, tape, and an assortment of other miscellaneous goods but, what’s the point of buying all the gear if you buy the wrong stuff or dislike the sport?

Now here’s why I’m here to help and this is what this newsletter is all about! For the next coming weeks, each post will explain all the new things in the amazing sport of rock climbing including gear recommendations, climbing tips, and recovery ideas but for this post, I just have one request.

How To Start Your Journey!

Now, If you haven’t already, go find your nearest rock climbing gym that you like the look of and determine what you can climb there then figure out what you want to start with!

You have two options, Bouldering and Top Rope both uniquely fun and exciting experiences. Now, if you can pick either or only one, I’ll explain the differences and important parts of each right now!

PS: If you already know these terms but still haven’t gone climbing I recommend picking one trying it out and subscribing for future climbing tips!

Bouldering

  • No Ropes are needed! You can climb right from the ground with no harnesses!

  • The lengths of the climbs are shorter thus you focus more on power and strength!

  • There are large mats to catch you if you fall!

  • It’s easy to start as you only need yourself and the climbing gym!

Top Rope

  • You use Ropes to help secure you with a harness to climb!

  • The climbs are longer and thus more endurance-focused!

  • You are caught by the rope that reduces your risk and can help you climb at times as well!

  • Make sure to bring a friend that can belay, or when you go to the gym have a person booked to belay you!

Now that you know the differences it’s time to decide what you will do and I’m looking forward to seeing you on the walls!
